Book Test for CSCS Card

Frequently Asked Questions

What CITB Health, Safety and Environment Test do I take?

Use our What test do I need to take? page to find what test to take based on your occupation and card requirements.

The Operatives Test is by far the most popular, as it focuses on many of the activities and good, safe practices on site- covering general health and safety, environmental awareness, legal information and management. If you are starting a career in construction, it’s highly likely that you will need to pass the operatives test to get on a construction site.

The only time you may need to take another test other than Operative, is if you are any of the below:

- Plumbing / Gas

- Demolition

- Manager / Professional

- Supervisor

- Highways

- Working at Height

- HVACR

Why not enter your job role in our finder tool on the What test do I need to take? page and use that to help you find what test you need to book.

Why do I need to take the CITB Health Safety and Environment test?

Although CSCS cards should not be viewed as a passport to working in the construction industry, they are now widely required on the majority of construction sites and by contractors. Along with the appropriate construction related training and qualifications, construction workers and professionals that visit construction sites are required to pass the CITB Health Safety and Environment Test within the previous two years, in most cases.

What else do I need to obtain a CSCS Card?

Once you have passed your CITB Health and Safety Test that you book with us, you may need to complete a one day Health and Safety course if you haven’t completed one already (please note that we do not deliver the courses or apply for your card). If you already have a qualification such as the QCF Level 1/SCQF Level 4 Award in Health and Safety (Green Card- Labourers Qualification), this is a lifetime qualification that only needs to be completed once.

When you have passed the CITB Health and Safety Test and have completed the one day H&S course (or already hold a lifetime qualification) you can apply for a CSCS Card directly, submitting your test certificate and qualifications as evidence.
